I have been meaning to post something about this album publicly. Here it is—my favorite album of 2008. Brian Blade and the Fellowship Band Seasons of Change.
This album has mostly a serious tone to it and emotional songs. At first it seems like a “slow” album, and it took a little while to grow on me—now it is one of my favorite jazz albums of all time.
It is a fairly guitar-heavy jazz album, but no musician dominates on it—everybody is making the compositions beautiful.
Every jazz fan should buy this album or find a way to listen to it. I’ve listened to it maybe twenty-five times.
Here is some YouTube videos of the band: playlist
You can buy the whole thing DRM-free, and listen to samples: here
